Events & Gatherings

Small, ordinary gatherings — open to the whole district.

We hold around twenty events a year — eight large ones, twelve smaller. Most are free or pay-what-you-can. None require booking by phone except the Winter Lunch.

Apple Day at the parish garden

Our 14th annual Apple Day. Bring a paper bag for apple-pressing (juice to take away, free), a curiosity for the seed swap, and a willingness to listen to the a neighbouring hamlet beekeepers explain why a hive needs heather. Kitchen-table reading at noon by the parish poet Rev Julia Curtis.

Where: The Trust Garden, rear of St Peter & St Paul's, Eastham. Cost: Free; donations to the Practical Recovery Aid programme. Suitable for: All ages.

New Volunteer Welcome Evening

A two-hour, tea-and-shortbread introduction to the Trust for anyone curious about giving an hour a week. We are honest about the work and frank about the limits. No commitment required; come and have a look.

The Trust's 39th Winter Lunch at the parish church

Three courses — leek-and-potato soup, a roast (or nut roast), trifle — cooked by the Practical Recovery Aid programme volunteer team, a small choir from the parish primary school, and a raffle for the Small Grants Fund. £8 a place; free for over-80s and unpaid carers; £4 for under-12s.

Lantern-Lit Carols in the Churchyard

Forty-five minutes of lantern-lit carols under the sycamore tree, with the Rev Julia Curtis, the Eastham Town Band, and a small brazier for the chestnuts. A retiring collection for the Carer Relief. Bring a torch and a friend.

'Welcome Back' Breakfast at the Practical Recovery Aid programme

The the Practical Recovery Aid programme reopens after its annual summer week off with a free breakfast for members — tea, toast, marmalade, a small bunch of allotment flowers on each table, and Daniel quietly explaining what is new on the shelves this autumn.

Spring Seed Swap

Our annual seed swap — bring your spare seed envelopes (clearly labelled, please), and leave with somebody else's. a trustee, our allotment lead, will run a short 'first vegetable patch' clinic in the corner from 11am. Free tea and seed-cake.

The Trust Summer Garden Party

Our largest event of the year — held in the allotment on the last Sunday of June. Bunting, a string quartet from the parish Conservatoire, an open-flame bread oven, a hand-cranked ice-cream maker, and the trustees serving lemonade. The Trust's annual report is gently presented at three o'clock.

Where: The Trust Garden. Cost: £3 entry; under-12s free; ticket price banks into the Practical Recovery Aid programme. Booking: Not required.

Annual General Meeting

The Trust's AGM. Open to the public, all are welcome to attend. The Chair presents the annual report; the Treasurer reads the accounts; trustees stand for election. A small wine reception afterwards. Notice has been published in the parish newsletter.

Heritage Walking Tour — 'Five Wards, Seventy-Nine Years'

A two-hour, four-mile walking tour of the Trust's geography, led by trustee a trustee. We start at Hockerills, pass the parish church, the allotment, the Practical Recovery Aid programme, Teme Valley Heritage Trust offices and the river, and end at a tea-room in Tenbury.

Cost: £6 (£3 over-65s). Capacity: 24 places.

The Carer gathering

A monthly informal tea for unpaid carers in the parish — no agenda, no introductions required, no minute-keeping. A safe pair of hours in a corner of Eastham Village Hall, with cake, a kettle on a constant boil, and one trustee in attendance.
